Kids love word searches

Education

Word searches are accessible to most students, providing a straight forward, achievable and interesting task.  They are a fun classroom activity, fully involving students and motivating them to complete the puzzle.

Word searches improve the mix of activities in a lesson and provide an enjoyable break from the norm.   They provide an excellent way to recap or introduce a topic with the vocabulary and issues for a unit of work. Puzzles can also supply an approachable homework, an emergency lesson cover, or a filler for the end of a lesson.

The words found can be used as a basis for a wide range of learning experiences.  A page of suggested tasks is included, for insertion onto the puzzles, such as: ‘Write the words in your book along with a definition for each word.' or ‘Write a paragraph using each word only once.', etc.

Students improve their literacy skills, spellings are reinforced and vocabulary grows.  Cognitive skills and concentration are encouraged.  Recognition and recall of key words is increased.

Wordsearch Wizard is a practical and useful addition to teachers' resources.

Look

A large print preview is always shown on screen, so you can see what your puzzle looks like.

View the puzzles with the answers clearly shown or hidden.  This allows you to judge the difficulty and suitability yourself.

A wide variety of puzzle shapes can be used - square, diamond, triangle, circular, spiral, and a range of linear puzzles, along with five different path styles.

Select the fonts for the puzzle. Fade and greyscale pictures, then place them on the page.  This can give puzzles a distinctive and interesting appearance.

Play

Puzzles can be solved on screen or on interactive whiteboard. They can be used by individuals or as a group activity.

Students can play the puzzles on screen, against the clock, against each other or against a computer opponent.

Let students design their own word searches for projects.  Encourage creativity and computer skills, and bring ICT into any subject.

Print

Word searches are fun

Print up to 40 puzzles at once, with a different solution for each member of the class, so answers can't be copied.

Print answer grids for puzzles, including clues to help if students can't find a word.

Print 1, 2 or 4 puzzles on a single page.

Include titles, headers and instructions on the puzzles.

No fuss, no fiddling, choose the words, choose the shape and difficulty, then print the puzzles.
